There are about 1,600 dairy farmers in the Isarco Valley producing fresh milk on a daily basis. But where do the fresh milk, butter and other dairy by-products come from? All this and more may be found out at the Fane Alpine pasture Dairy Festival in Valles/Vals.
The entire dairy industry in South Tyrol, in conjunction with the South Tyrolean Dairy Association (Südtiroler Sennereiverband), holds the annual Fane Alpine pasture Dairy Festival, where
everything revolves around the subject of the milk. Farmers hold cow-milking demonstrations showing how butter, cheese and cream are produced and visitors can enjoy traditional local milk-based delicacies in the Alpine huts and shelters.
Starting at the parking lot leading up to the Fane Alpine pasture,
the Milk Route showcases everything connected with milk production as well as cattle breeding. The Dairy Festival also provides numerous curiosities including fairy tales based on the topic of milk, a romp in the hay and a milking contest.
