Ridnaun–Schneeberg World of Mining

This is not a visit to a museum, but rather a plunge into the world of silver, lead and zinc mining at of Schneeberg Mountain, in Ridanna/Ridnaun.

Open daily, except Mondays, from the end of March to the beginning of November (on holidays and in August, open on Mondays as well)

A - Schneeberg Kompakt (introductory tour) – from April to the beginning of November and in December, at 9:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.
This is a good tour for anyone who is visiting Schneeberg World of Mining for the first time. Schneeberg’s 800 years of mining; all of the methods used for mining, transporting, and breaking ore since the Middle Ages; original, still-functional machines are in use. You can experience the underground working conditions firsthand: darkness, moisture, dust and noise. Sparkling little pieces of ore may even be taken home. The circuit through mining tunnels, ore-processing facilities, ore-transportation systems, and museum are accessible to the disabled. Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours.

B - Schneeberg Abenteuer Schicht (Underground Adventure Tour) – from mid-May to October
Experience the grueling conditions under which miners had to work. The tour begins with the Schneeberg Kompakt (introductory tour), followed by a lunch break. Then participants put on full mining gear, ride to 2,000 meters on a bus, take an underground tour through the 3.5-km-long Poschhaus gallery and embark on an adventurous underground excursion, even ore mining with a hammer and chisel. Duration: 7 hrs. Reservation necessary.

C - Schneeberg BergbauWelt (World of Mining Tour) – from mid-June to October
Full-day excursion to Schneeberg Mountain. Hike and experience the extreme working conditions under which mining in the high mountains took place. Ride the bus up to 2,100 m. Hike over the 2,700-m high Schneebergscharte wind gap to the old mining village of St. Martin am Schneeberg. Mineral hunt in the countless ore dumps, the old mining settlement at 2,355 m, the hazardous ore transportation systems ... return via a 6.5-km tunnel, part of the way on foot and part of the way on the mine train. Duration: 10 hours. Reservation necessary.

D - Schneeberg Junior
Adventurous excursion above and below ground with a lot of activities for children, families and schools. Duration: about 2.5 to 3 hrs, taking place on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday; additional days upon request.
