Brixen and Its Holiday Villages

The episcopal city and its side valleys

The historical town of Brixen, known in Italian as Bressanone, is a Baroque shopping town with a Southern atmosphere and a Mediterranean climate. In Brixen, contemporary buildings and the bustling atmosphere of the city’s historical streets, alleyways and arcades blend in seamlessly and harmoniously with the time-honored focal point of South Tyrol’s clergy and spiritual life.

Brixen is a real treat for anyone who loves city breaks. It is also an ideal base for nature enthusiasts and hikers: examples include the nearby Plose and Afers plateaus or the area just to the north of Vahrn, towards Schalders. An excursion into the hiking paradise of Lüsen is also worthwhile – and alpinists will be equally enthusiastic about it.

Culture and history in Brixen and Environs
You’ll find cultural treasures at Neustift Abbey and at Franzensfeste, a fortress full of sprawling underground tunnels that has ranks as one of the largest exhibition spaces in the Alps since its renovation.
