If you think the best views are reserved for the summit, no. As the very name “Dolorama” shows, you can enjoy the Dolomites and mountain panoramas in tandem. Comprising four stages, the Dolorama long-distance hiking trail leads across Alpine pastures and craggy, rocky terrain on the way from the Rodenecker Lüsner Alm Alpine pasture to Lajen. This 60-kilometre route features some 2,365 vertical metres. It also provides a constant view of the bizarre rock formations that line the Dolomites, including the imposing Peitlerkofel in the Villnösstal valley, the remarkable Geislerspitzen peaks, the Schlern massif, and the Langkofel and Plattkofel massifs. All along the Dolorama trail, a host of rest areas and viewing points offer a welcome opportunity to take a break and savour the stunning panoramas. Top up your energy levels with local specialities at the refuges and Alpine huts along the route. From the prehistoric settlement in Astmoss on the Lüsner Alm Alpine pasture and the fascinating rock layers on the Würzjoch pass, which provide great insight into how the Dolomites were formed, nature is always front and centre. The numerous access points and descents allow you to shorten the four-day tour if you wish and tackle the stages individually.
