The Valle Isarco is famous for its white wines. These wines, renowned for their subtle and fruity fragrance as well as their elegant and decisive body, come from the old
cellar of the Novacella/Neustift Abbey, from the
Valle Isarco growers' co-operative wineries at Chiusa/Klausen or from
one of the area's wine producers. The cool nights and warm days plus the perfect valley breezes help to give the Valle Isarco wine a typically tart and dry taste with a full and robust body.
Good wine lovers can buy these premium bottles directly from the producers (
two commercial wineries and various grower-winemakers in the area of Bressanone/Brixen, Varna/Vahrn, Novacella/Neustift and Velturno/Feldthurns) or in one of the wine-shops of Bressanone and Chiusa/Klausen.

The most important selection of wines from Valle Isarco
Sylvaner is the most common grape variety and grows on slopes sheltered from the wind, at altitudes between 500 and 700 metres above sea level. Sylvaner is a fruity and elegant wine that compliments the many delicacies from Valle Isarco.
Equally common is the
Müller Thurgau. This vine loves high altitudes and climbs up to 850 metres. Its simple and pleasant taste makes it a popular summer wine and aperitif.
The
Gewürztraminer covers the warmer slopes. The grapes harvested in late October offer a robust and complex wine. This wine is perfect with flavours in dishes such as dumplings with porcini mushrooms and melted butter or smoked meat with sauerkraut.
Kerner is an impressive new wine with consistent excellent vintages. It is the perfect accompaniment to spring and summer dishes such as asparagus, gnocchi with ricotta and grilled fish.
Riesling is fascinating, not only for its characteristic acidity, but also its long history in the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco valley. Riesling combines the aromas of peach and apple with clear mineral notes, and serves as an excellent accompaniment for the Eisacktal Valley speckled trout, on a warm summer evening.
Other varieties of wine grown in Valle Isarco include the fruity
Veltliner, elegant
Pinot Gris and
Riesling, which are pleasant and important wines due to their place of cultivation.
