Cycling in the Isarco Valley

Tours through picturesque villages

Cycling and mountain biking are some of the most popular summer activities in the Isarco Valley: it has an extensive network of paths that runs through this multifaceted cultivated landscape, not only along the valley floor but also in the highland areas and up on the alpine pastures. The tours through picturesque villages and hamlets to Franzensfeste Fortress, past Lake Varna and along the Chestnut Trail to Neustift Abbey and Brixen are ideal for moderate cyclists and families.

Ambitious mountain bikers can expect athletically challenging rides and trails in the highlands and on the plateaus. Cyclists in the Isarco Valley will find not only a dense, well-maintained network of pathways, with first-class flow trails, but also plenty of worthwhile attractions and idyllic places to stop for refreshment at mountain refuges and alpine farms.

The winding pass roads will throw down the gauntlet to even the most athletic road cyclist. The Brennero Bike Route, meanwhile, is idea for leisure cyclists: it runs through the entire Isarco Valley, passing noteworthy attractions like Franzensfeste Fortress and Neustift Abbey. The cities of Vipiteno, Brixen and Chiusa are ideal places to stop and take a break. The Brennero Bike Route, which is a part of an international bike route that runs from Munich to Verona, is also well suited for a multi-day tour.

Also the cycling with the e-bike is gaining importance in Eisacktal. Especially in Racines several rental stations have specialized in the e-bike.
