There are many other challeging pass roads which are worth a bike ride. The roads that with their bends get over 2,000 m, make road cycling a very special experience in South Tyrol. Away from the lofty heights on the South Tyrolean pass roads, side valleys, side roads and paved bike paths in Vinschgau/Val Venosta, Meran/Merano and the surrounding area, along the Alto Adige Wine Road, in the Eisacktal and Pustertal valleys you'll be excited to go road biking: discover the variety of routes through apple orchards and vineyards.

Trekking on two wheels

On well-maintained cycling routes running through valleys, you'll enjoy the landscape while earning culinary regional delights. If you wish, you can return to your starting point on board a comfortable train. West of the region you can cycle along the ancient Roman road Via Claudia Augusta from Reschenpass to Salurn/Salorno. On the Pustertal cycling route in the east, past the Kronplatz mountain, the landscape becomes more alpine, while from north to south, the historic towns of Sterzing/Vipiteno, Brixen/Bressanone, and Klausen/Chiusa on the Brenner cycling route, invite you for a pit stop.

This cycling route stretches from the Alps to the threshold of the Mediterranean: from the Brenner Pass on the Austro-Italian border to the provincial capital of Bolzano/Bozen. Cycling safely and fairly

Whether you are road biking or riding with an e-MTB - you'll find some basic rules for how to reach your destination.

Good planning is at the start of all bike tours. Are the basic requirements for the tour met? Your health and bicycle conditions must be in top shape. Do you have your equipment in mind? You'd better double-check! Pack sufficiently warm, waterproof, windproof clothing, a repair kit, your phone - EU emergency number is 112 - lights and food. Take your sunglasses and gloves with you and wear them. Maps or GPS navigation apps will help you find directions. Check the route and the weatehr forecast before your ride, put your helmet on and you're all set!

Once you hop in the saddle, pedal on the designated trails and follow any detours or barriers to always respect the bicyle laws. Yield to pedestrians: slow down and announce that you're coming up behind them; if you meet hikers, it's common courtesy to greet. Above all, you should always stay alert in order to be able to react to unexpected situations. Don't brake too quickly. If you lose traction of you wheels and apply both brakes firmly, the path can be damaged. Sometimes a route can take you onto a busy road: keep a safe distance from vehicles and the roadside. Don't ride side by side. Moreover, riding a bike benefits animals and the environment. During daylight hours you won't disturb shy forest dwellers; but if you must cross a cow pasture, approach the animals slowly and close the pasture fence's gate after passing. Avoid noise and take your trash bag with you. Be yourself the cyclist you would like to meet!

In critical situations, the SOS EU ALP app gives you assistance. It locates where you are and your position is then transmitted to the responsible control center, which can provide notifications to the medical services, mountain rescue, ground or air rescue units.
