There’s nothing better than taking a relaxing evening stroll through the shopping streets of the historical alleyways of an Isarco Valley village after a day in the mountains – perhaps in the oldest, yet very modern town of
Bressanone/Brixen, which celebrated its millennial jubilee in 2001. On the historical plazas of the university town, a contemplative old town atmosphere meets a Mediterranean lifestyle. Luxurious fashion boutiques, gourmet shops and exquisite aperitifs under the portici/Lauben arcades epitomize the scene.
Vipiteno/Sterzing and
Chiusa/Klausen are equally colorful. Both of these Isarco Valley trading towns, which are also popular starting points for hiking, have well-preserved medieval city centers and both are listed among the most beautiful small towns in Italy. Popular shopping streets can be found amongst the alleyways of Chiusa’s Old Town, below stately
Säben Abbey. In Vipiteno, city life plays out on the main square of the
Tower of the Twelve. After a full day of activities,
hiking,
biking or
swimming, Vipiteno and Chiusa are wonderful places to cap off the day by enjoying an aperitif on the plaza in the evening sun.
