Crispy, sweet and juicy

Whether pure, in desserts or in cosmetics: South Tyrolean apples are healthy, versatile and characterful

Our favourite fruit keeps inspiring us to come up with new ideas, creations and uses. As a healthy snack, in liquid form in vinegars, syrups, juices or apple cider, in cuisine in the form of seductive specialities or simply freshly picked from the tree.

Welcome to the land of apples

Where quality, origins and sustainability are brought to life

Some 7,000 farmers tend to the apple orchards all year round, thereby ensuring our healthy nutrition and well-being. The crisp, juicy South Tyrolean apples bring a smile to the face both as a snack on-the-go and as an ingredient in traditional desserts as well as being used as a beauty elixir in cosmetics. South Tyrolean Apple PGI (protected geographical indication) represent top quality and origins in all their forms. Following on from the captivating white-pink apple blossom in spring, the key time of the year for apple farmers is the harvest season between August and November. We are particularly proud of the fact that South Tyrol is the biggest producer of organic apples in Europe and numerous farmers are applying integrated farming methods. This keeps the natural cycle of the fruit orchards in-tact. If apples are a favourite fruit of yours, we recommend taking a tour of the apple orchards and visiting the farm or the fruit farming museum in Lana.

South Tyrolean apple strudel

Favourite dishes, sweet temptations and delicious classics

Sitting at a traditional wooden table in an Alpine farm, ideally after a beautiful walk, it tastes particularly good: apple strudel is probably South Tyrol’s most popular dessert. To ensure that our favourite dish works and tastes uniquely delicious, we only use the best natural ingredients: hand-picked South Tyrolean apples, raisins and pine nuts for the juicy filling, butter from South Tyrolean dairy farmers and free-range eggs from for the wafer-thin filo pastry or hearty shortcrust.

Did you know that some 85,000 kilograms of strudel are produced in South Tyrol each year?  If these were laid out in a row, they would extend out over a length of 26 kilometres. This is equivalent to the route from Bolzano/Bozen to Meran/Merano. But back to the sweet treat: you can find an opportunity to sample apple strudel, for example, at the annual Bread & Strudel Market in Brixen

Tasty apple recipes

We could fill entire recipe books with delicious dishes in which the South Tyrolean Apple PGI plays a leading role. From apple and leak tartlets to apple and cinnamon pastries and apple chutney. Which apple delicacies appeal to you the most?
