The Valle Isarco extends from Bolzano/Bozen to the north up to Brennero/Brenner. Then, near Bressanone/Brixen, the narrow gorge of the Valle Isarco widens to become a spacious and luxuriant basin. Vipiteno/Sterzing, the old city of the Fugger family, with its side valleys, is just 15 kilometres from the Brennero/Brenner pass.
Your eyes will feast on truly charming countryside in South Tyrol: from the crests of the foothills with their vineyards and chestnut orchards to the lush Alpine meadows and pastures and from the mountain forests to the characteristic rocky peaks of the Dolomites and up to an altitude of three thousand metres where the glaciers extend over the East and West Breonie Alps.
Hiking and mountain bike
The Valle Isarco offers lots of alternatives for those who like to take hikes, mountain bike trips and excursions plus plenty of things to do for winter sports enthusiasts: from expert skiers and daring snowboarders to cross-country skiing lovers, everyone will find just what they need. This is the ideal vacation spot for families since all ski resorts offer special winter offers (with kindergartens on skis).
The richness of this valley is not just the beauty and diversity of the breathtaking countryside: it's also a valley of transition, where the Mediterranean and the northern-central European cultures have intertwined for millenniums, as demonstrated by the ancient farmhouses, picturesque towns and rich cultural background of unique works of art in all styles by important architects, painters and sculptors from all periods.
The pleasure of the palate
The wide variety of offers is also enhanced by the culinary pleasures of the Valle Isarco Groumet Route: the table fare includes traditional specialities, Austrian-Bohemian dishes and Mediterranean recipes accompanied by a delicious glass of Valle Isarco wine.
As a final touch to the changing seasons, autumn marks the revival of the old Törggelen tradition, tasting typical local delicacies along with new wine in old country taverns.
