Racines, a recently established municipaliti whose origins date back to the ancient settlements on the southern slope of the Alps, consists of three valleys - Ridanna/Ridnaun, Racines and Giovo/Jaufen - in addition to the Giovo Pass.
The municipality of Racines has the sixth largest surface area of the entire Southern Tyrol region, with just a few inhabitants scattered over small picturesque towns. Starting from 980 m , the inhabited part of the valleys reaches an altitude of 1,520 m, while certain excursions or climbs will even take you up to a height of 3,507 m.
The valleys of tranquillity embraced by nature There is no traffic in these valleys since all the roads lead to and end in the mountains. This is why the three Racines valleys can be defined, without exaggerating, as "the valleys of tranquillity embraced by nature". Countless excursion routes lead to sunny Alpine summer pastures and continue up to the magnificent reign of the glaciers.
