Rio di Pusteria/Valles/Maranza/ Spinga/Vandoies/Vallarga/Fundres

Rio Pusteria/Mühlbach-Maranza/Meransen-Valles/Vals-Spinga/Spinges

Rio Pusteria, located at the entrance to the Val Pusteria/Pustertal valley, has been a market site since 1269, as demonstrated by its ancient walls, its buildings and bourgeois houses.

Though it has always been situated along an important roadway, the town has changed significantly over the years. The real innovations are the underground tunnel and the by-pass built in 1995: Rio Pusteria, no longer crossed by traffic, has rediscovered the peace and tranquillity of the past. Where just a short time ago long queues cut the town in half, today there is a cosy and calm atmosphere.

Pedestrians stroll in the centre of town, go shopping or sip a delicious cappuccino at a sidewalk cafe. The only remnant of the past is its strategic position: the Bressanone/Brixen North toll booth is just 5 km away. From Rio Pusteria you can reach the splendid Valles valley in the blink of any eye, an area with old farms, charming hotels and a magnificent landscape. Numerous paths lead to mountain pastures where old stone farmsteads challenge the ravages of time and weather, amongst the enchanting glaciers of the Aurine Alps. The cable-way will take you from Rio Pusteria to Maranza in just a few minutes. Walks, mountain climbing and relaxation in complete peace and quiet: that's what a vacation at Rio Pusteria, Valles and Spinga has to offer!

Maranza/Meransen

The church of San Giacomo/St. Jakob, located at 1414 m above sea level, dates back to the 13th century and is surrounded by the scattered farmsteads of Meransen/Maranza, a sunny town nestled between fields and meadows stretching as far as the eye can see. The gentle slope of the mountain is covered with increasingly dense forests of conifers, that then become vast mountain pastures and mountain peaks, up to a height of about 2700 m above sea level. You can reach Maranza, your vacation spot, on a beautiful panoramic road or by cable-way starting from Rio di Pusteria at the beginning of the valley with the same name. You can also reach Maranza, your vacation spot, by cable-way. Naturally, it's up to you to plan your holiday the way you want to: however, whether you want to soak up some sun or play tennis, take a bike ride or play your favourite sport, you must find the time to stroll around the countryside, because the scenery is worth it. As you climb the solitary peaks you'll enjoy an indescribable view over the Dolomites, the Ötztal Alps and the Aurine Alps.

The mountain pastures, the Alpine lakes and the peaks above Maranza will let you rediscover the world and nature from a different point of view. And another convenient way to get closer to the mountains is by a cabin-lift that will take you up to 2070 m. Whether you decide to conquer a mountain peak or take a walk up to the next summer grazing pasture, let yourself be seduced by the wide variety of Alpine flora that surrounds you or by the warm hospitality you'll find wherever you go!

Vandoies/Vintl-Val di Fundres/Pfunderertal - an incredibly green and sun-drenched wonderland

Vandoies di Sotto/Untervintl, with its Baroque church and beautiful homes and buildings, is located immediately after the enclosure of Rio Pusteria, a fortification that up to about 1500 marked the border between Tyrol and the Val Pusteria valley, and part of the dominion of the Gorizia County. Here there is certainly a lot of greenery and the homes are separated by colourful gardens.

Marvelous landscapes

Paths starting from the village cross fields and forests and lead to very old panoramic views, in a picturesque position. From Vandoies you can go to the sunny terrace of Val Pusteria valley, the large village of Terento and Val di Fundres/Pfunderertal valley. You’ll be amazed by the beauty of the countryside: valleys, wooded slopes, Alpine pastures, lakes, glaciers and mountains. The highest mountain is Gran Pilastro/Hochfeiler which, at an altitude of 3509 m, is reserved for expert climbers.

Normal hikers can be satisfied by more accessible mountains with their cosy refuges. In the winter, Vintl is in an ideal position for practising winter sports. All the main skiing resorts are very close by and there are also numerous sled runs and cross-country circuits.
