Immersed in the green valleys, Mediterranean vineyards and the most beautiful mountains in the world, the Dolomites, Valle Isarco will appeal to anyone seeking tranquility along with a wide range of outdoor activities.

30th november 2012 - 6th january 2013

During Advent a very special Christmas atmosphere prevails in the Cathedral Square in Bressanone/Brixen. The Christmas market manages to blend the bustle of activity with tranquil surroundings. The market itself offers many original gift ideas from the area's traditional Alpine craftsmanship. Delicious mulled wine and local specialities make for a reflective Advent season in a cheerful evening atmosphere.

> Tip
A visit to the Nativity Museum in the Prince Bishop's Palace and the famous cloister are an experience you should not miss. Here you can see nativity scenes from the Baroque era to the present.

The theme at the Aquarena in Bressanone is 365 Days of Wellbeing - and it’s all about cool water. The Acquarena has a 25-metre pool, a fun pool with slide and flow channel, a kiddie pool, and an outdoor saltwater pool. The well-equipped sauna area, which has a steam bath, soft sauna, and Finnish sauna, is especially popular with holidaymakers.

At Balneum, a modern glass cube with recreational pool and sauna at the gates of Vipiteno, visitors experience the whole gamut of soothing sauna facilities. Designed for around 250 bathers, the indoor swimming pool on the ground floor offers a large sports pool, a relaxation and teaching pool with massage beds, a Jacuzzi, and a pool for babies and small children. Visitors can relax in style at the sauna and wellness area, which has a surface area of 1,120 m2, a sauna terrace, Kneipp area and plunge pool.

Sylvaner is the most common grape variety and grows on slopes sheltered from the wind, at altitudes between 500 and 700 metres above sea level. Sylvaner is a fruity and elegant wine that compliments the many delicacies from Valle Isarco.

Equally common is the Müller Thurgau. This vine loves high altitudes and climbs up to 850 metres. Its simple and pleasant taste makes it a popular summer wine and aperitif.

The Gewürztraminer covers the warmer slopes. The grapes harvested in late October offer a robust and complex wine. This wine is perfect with flavours in dishes such as dumplings with porcini mushrooms and melted butter or smoked meat with sauerkraut.

Kerner is an impressive new wine with consistent excellent vintages. It is the perfect accompaniment to spring and summer dishes such as asparagus, gnocchi with ricotta and grilled fish.

Other varieties of wine grown in Valle Isarco include the fruity Veltliner, elegant Pinot Gris and Riesling, which are pleasant and important wines due to their place of cultivation.

The original temptation

The crisp bite in an apple does not necessarily result in expulsion from paradise. The high apple plateau of Naz-Sciaves/Natz-Schabs proves the opposite: Apples and landscapes right out of paradise form a harmonious unity. Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Elstar or Gala - the fruits of the high apple plateau Naz-Sciaves/Natz-Schabs have led many vacationers astray. With its sunny location and fertile soil the devilishly good fruits have found the perfect place to grow. In Naz-Sciaves/Natz-Schabs around 270 hectares are used for growing fruit; approximately 11,400 metric tons of different apple varieties are grown annually.

During the spring the apple trees are in full bloom. The harvest of early varieties starts as early as August. The last fruit is picked at the end of October. These are carefully stored in special cold rooms with low oxygen content. This guarantees that the apple remains a crispy treat throughout the year - eaten fresh or made into delicious fruit dishes.

> Tip
Try the culinary apple specialities at two special events in Naz-Sciaves/Natz-Schabs: in early October you are invited to the "Sunny Side Apple Week" and in the middle of the flowering season, from late April to early May, to the "Royal Blossom Festival".
